An even better gas to use for this purpose is xenon, but xenon is several ten-powers more expensive than argon, hence the higher price for xenon incandescent bulbs. Apart from the gas, the xenon-filled incandescent lamp operate just like any incandescent bulb would. So: Expensive, no filament, says xenon on the box = HID xenon lamp. Inexpensive
Light-emitting-diode (LED) headlights use small semiconductors (or diodes) to convert electric power into light. As solid-state bulbs, LED headlights do not contain a gas (such as halogen or xenon) and do not require a filament to produce light, making them much more durable and long-lasting than other headlight types.

For example, there are three variations of the A3 pre-facelift headlight (Halogen, Xenon and Bi-Xenon. The Halogen and Xenon have a 10 pin connector headlight and so does our A3 LED headlight. Therefore connectivity is direct "plug and play only. In the Bi-Xenon headlight, the connector used is a 14 pin device.
My Mercedes W210 has original Halogen but the light was not bright and good enough (my thoughts)I bought a Xenon kit from Carnamics 6000K and the difference
While both gases have unique properties, they are often used for different purposes. Helium is a lighter gas, which makes it ideal for use in balloons and blimps. Xenon, on the other hand, is a denser gas, which makes it ideal for use in lighting and ion engines. In the following sections, we will explore the properties of helium and xenon in
Xenon lights work a bit differently to standard halogen bulbs and actually require two core components to work. The first component is what’s referred to as a ballast . This is essentially a power converter which takes the normal 12V DC power from your car, and fires out 23,000V to ignite the second component…the bulb.
Look on "that other forum" for a post "I used toothpaste and a toothbrush to clean my headlamps". The kits have a mild abraisive (or sandpaper) to progresively sand out scratches and oxidation and then a plastic solvent to fill in the fine swirls/scratches and make the plastic headlamp cover clear again (about $25 for the kit).
