Steve 2y. 1. Don't buy one. Mine is just out of the garage with 70 000 km on the clock. $4000 to replace the timing chain and they didn't put the engine back properly it is now touching the chassis creating horrible vibrations in the cab. No warranty at all with Renault.
And latterly, thanks to Renault's stake in Nissan, it also turns up complete with a Nissan badge, labelled as Interstar. Gross vehicle weights range from 2.8 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes, which means that at the bottom end there is some cross-over between the stylish Renault Trafic which also appeared in 2001, offering a far superior driving experience.
There are significant weaknesses in the Renault Trafic. The gearbox has a life of approx 60,000 - 70,000 mile. My van has 114,000 on the clock and has had 2 genuine gearbox replacements in that time. They're not cheap and mechanics hate doing the job, thus you don't get much change out of 2 thousand a time.
When we bought it sales guy said that Nissan and Renault had bought into each other, Nissan to sort out renaults infamous electrics and renault to improve Nissan mechanics/engineering. We have only had one electrical problem in a year of owning the car and 40000km; the cruise control caught a gremlin and had to be re-programmed.

General Comments: Trim quality could be better - typical Renault with light grey plastic that breaks easily, and it is everywhere. Seats are comfortable however and decent quality.
